Description
NZeTA – Get it before you go
Download this free official New Zealand government app and use it to request your NZeTA and pay the IVL. The app is the fastest way to request an NZeTA and should take you less than 5 minutes.
You can use the app to scan your passport to upload your details and scan your credit or debit card for ease of payment. An NZeTA request costs NZD $17.
You can request and pay for up to 10 NZeTAs in one transaction for your family or group.
What are the NZeTA & IVL?
The NZeTA is a border security measure introduced by the New Zealand Government on 1 October 2019.

Most visitors coming to New Zealand must pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) of NZD $35. What's New in Version 1.2.2
Over 400,000 travellers have now used this official New Zealand government app to successfully request their NZeTA.
The new version (1.2.1) allows you to check your NZeTA status even if you requested your NZeTA on a different device or via a different channel. You can now make multiple NZeTA requests from the same device without deleting previous requests and payment by American Express has been enabled.

Error after Error
Kept encountering error at every stage, making it so stressful for visitors. Still have not managed to do it. There should be a disclaimer to do this 10 days before the travel date before it might just fail you!

Scam! Trash! charged credit card twice!
App couldn’t load kept saying an error occurred. When it finally loaded, submitted photo & details - hang! Had to resubmit. Then got to payment finally - just hang there loading for a long time. No idea what’s happened. No email on submission. So closed app and resubmitted everything. Got thru payment 2nd time. But now realised the app double charged me. The first transaction they hung forever did go thru. Such an awful thrashy app. Now I have to go chase my credit card company to try to write off the double charge or try to submit for a refund from ur immigration - don’t even know if I would even get back my refund. Why push visitors to use your thrashy app?? Such a Terrible representation to your beautiful country

Worst app ever
5 tries before I could get into the app. The steps were just too onerous to complete and app stalled at the end. No status reflected even though money was deducted from credit card. Pay a few dollars more to use the website instead!

Very poor.
No communication regarding why it’s malfunctioning.
I have tried with the App four times. When it gets to payment it fails to process 3 different credit cards. Endless circling. No information why payment is not being processed.
Online same issue — at payment, it cancels the transaction says payment ‘timed out’.
I have wasted 2-3 hours.

Scanner fails
The first step is the scan which cannot be bypassed by entering the data manually. Even on a perfect iPhone8 camera with the latest iOS, the software cannot do proper OCR on my brandnew EU passport. Lousy design, no QA whatsoever. @NZ gov: get a reimbursement from your software dev team. @Apple: good idea to include at least rudimentary QA for so-called scanner apps in the apple process.

Great experience: passport scan is a breeze as well as credit card scan. I wish all countries would have a similar app.

Garbage and a crime
I’m from a visa free country (Canada and NZ have a treaty) I’ve never had to pay for a visa or apply for one to visit. So here come a silly little jerk mo e by the NZ government to make revenue from visitors. And they want to charge for a new kinda visa. bS! On top of that this app never works. It’s crashes constantly and does not allow me or most people I know who use it on iPhone can never finish it either. Not to mention it never gets upgraded. What utter garbage.

Randomly crashes when entering multiple passports for a family of 5. How can you justify charging more for online eta applications when you have such a poor app! Hopeless

Conceptually ok, it just doesn’t work
Preparing for NZ visit with family of 4. The (iOS) app randomly crashes at various stages of the process. Gave up after 5 failed attempts as you always need to start from scratch as no data seems to be saved until you reach the end point...

Cannot scan passport!!!!!
Could not even pass the first stage of scanning the passport. Same error as the first reviewer, ie green lines aligned and info is read, but still ‘try to avoid reflections’. Tried various passports and various locations, still unsuccessful. Frustrating!

iPhone Scanning
I think there are issues for iPhones when we need to scan our passports, can’t seem to scan, only works on androids so far. Other than that all is good.

Great initiative to use app for ETA application. But app should have been developed by the right people!
I can’t pass the passport scanning step due to “try to avoid reflections” error. Even though the blue bar already managed to capture the machine readable zone info correctly.
Tried using iPhone SE, and iPhone 7. Both failed miserably.

Scanner read the passport but just can’t move to the next page
The scanner was able to detect the text on the passport, but wasn’t able to capture it and move to the next page. Tried on several angles as well as with and without (direct) light.
